Launceston driver Kurt Luttrell has taken out the fourth round of the $70,000
Farmers Union Iced Coffee Sprintcar Series at Carrick Speedway last night.
Luttrell, who won the series two years ago showed last night he is adamant on
making up for his poor season last year with strong performances already this
season.
After the four heats last night, which had produced four different winners,
Luttrell had done enough to secure himself pole position for the 30 lap feature
race, with a win and a third from his two heats.
Smithton rookie Ashley House won the first heat of the night, clearing out by
half a lap to finish ahead of Jason and Adrian Redpath, but failed to finish his
second, with Luttrell taking out the race.
Former State champion Geoff Lette, of Scottsdale, took out the third heat after
an amazing battle with Ulverstone's Anthony Johns, in which the lead changed
three times on the final lap alone.
Launceston's Gerry Hoekstra was victorious in the fourth heat, with Luttrell
finishing third, securing him the all important pole position for the final.
The B-Main was taken out by Launceston's Jamie Bricknell, ahead of Jason
Dawkins, who suffered car trouble in his earlier heats resulting in his poor
qualifying points.
The 30 lap feature delivered all it has promised, Adrian Redpath who started 8th
and Jason Dawkins who started 14th making their way through the field, and after
the first stoppage found themselves sitting in third and fourth places
respectively.
Redpath's luck soon ran out though, retiring to the in-field after making
contact with another car whilst spinning to avoid and incident in turn 4,
Dawkins was also caught up in the incident, but was able to keep his car going
and continue on unscathed.
With 11 to go Dawkins found himself in second, and at the green wasted no time
in passing Kurt Luttrell and clearing out by over half a lap by the end to cross
the line in first place, ahead of Luttrell and Lette.
Luttrell was later handed the victory by officials after they controversially
ruled Dawkins had passed 5 cars on the in-field on his way to victory,
relegating him back two spots to third.
The next round of the Farmers Union Iced Coffee series is to be held this
Saturday night at Latrobe's Mountain Dew Ice Speedway, in what will be a huge
night of racing, a double header with the fifth round of the National Pies Super
Sedan series.
