Sprintcar Season Set To Be Huge!

Sprintcar racing
in Tasmania is set to kick off next Saturday night at the Hobart International
Speedway with the first round of the $70,000 Farmers Union Sprintcar Series.
Last years champion Steve Bricknell has handed the reigns over to his 18 year
old son Jamie to defend the title. Former Farmers Union series winner Kurt
Lutrell will be out to regain the series title , but will attract some major
competition from reigning state champion Robin Dawkins, this year running a 2
car outfit with son Jason. Dawkins junior will arguably start favorite for this
year's series title.
Also in a 2 car team are brothers Jason & Adrian Redpath. Both able to win the
Farmers Union series and Tasmanian Title. Other contenders for the series will
be Anthony Johns, Phil Coates, Malcolm Lee, Gerry Hoekstra, Tony Smith and Tim
Austin.
This year also sees a couple of former state champions in other divisions
stepping up to Sprintcars, most notably former Mini sprint title holder Shannon
Wynne-Allen in a brand new Cool Chassis.
Former F500 title winner Kane Cruse in an ex Gary Brazier sprint car is also
making the step into the big time.
Other drivers joining the fray will be another former mini sprint competitor
Steven Rowe, Former state champion Geoff Lette will also make a return to
racing - driving the Darren Goodyear owned car raced last year by Mitchell
Dumesny.
With the touring World Series Sprintcars also coming to the state for 2 rounds
(Hobart & Latrobe) this year will be as big as ever.
